PSA (Male) - Prostate Specific Antigen is a substance produced by certain cells in the prostate gland. PSA is a protein and is a part of semen that causes it to liquefy (keeps the semen watery). Most of the PSA produced by the prostate gland is carried out of the body in semen, but a very small amount escapes into the blood stream. - Measures the amount of hemoglobin that carries glucose molecules. By measuring A1C, you get an idea of the average amount of glucose in your blood over the last few months. As glucose circulates in your blood, some of it spontaneously binds to hemoglobin (the red protein that carries oxygen in your red blood cells). This combination is called hemoglobin A1c (A1C).

DHT (Male & Female) - Dihydrotestosterone is derived by the body's genetics using the 5 alpha reductase enzyme, to convert testosterone.

SHBG (Male & Female) - Also known as Sex Binding Globulin. These levels are under the positive control of estrogens and thyroid hormones, and are suppressed by androgens. These influences dynamically control the liver synthesis of this carrier protein. Decreased levels of SHBG are frequently seen in hirsutism, virilization, obese postmenopausal women, and in women with diffuse hair loss. Increased levels may be present in cases of hyperthyroidism, testicular feminization, cirrhosis, male hypogonadism, pregnancy, and women using oral contraceptives.

Testosterone, Free (Male & Female) - Evaluate hirsutism andmasculinization in women; evaluate testicular function in clinical states where the testosterone binding proteins may be altered (obesity, cirrhosis, thyroid disorders). The concentration of free testosterone is very low, typically <2% of the total testosterone concentration. In most men and women, >50% of total circulating testosterone is bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and most of the rest is bound to albumin.

Testosterone, Total (Male & Female) - Indicator of LH secretion and Leydig cell function; evaluate gonadal and adrenal function; helpful in the diagnosis of hypogonadism, hypopituitarism, Klinefelter syndrome, and impotence (low values) in males, and hirsutism, anovulation, amenorrhea, and virilization in females. Diminished testosterone production is one of many potential causes of infertility in males.5,6 Low testosterone concentrations can be caused by testicular failure (primary hypogonadism) or inadequate stimulation by pituitary gonadotropins (secondary hypogonadism).

Estradiol (Male & Female) - Estradiol is the most potent estrogen of a group of endogenous estrogen steroids which includes estrone and estriol.

Estrogen (Male & Female) - Tests may be done to aid in the diagnosis of an ovarian tumor, Turner's syndrome, and hypopituitarism. In males, it may help in the diagnosis of gynecomastia or in the detection of estrogen-producing tumors.

FSH (Male & Female) - Follicle-stimulating hormone is made by the pituitary gland in the brain. Control of FSH production is a complex system involving hormones produced by the gonads (ovaries or testes), the pituitary, and the hypothalamus, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone.

LH (Male & Female) - Luteinizing hormone is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Control of LH production is a complex system involving hormones produced by the gonads (ovaries or testes), the pituitary, and the hypothalamus, such as gonadotrophin-releasing hormone.

DHEA-S (Male) - Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate is a sex hormone (androgen) created in men and to a lesser extent, women. It has a role to play in developing male secondary sexual characteristics at puberty and it can be metabolized by the body into more potent androgens, such as: testosterone and androstenedione, or changed into the female hormone estrogen. DHEAS is produced primarily in the adrenal cortex - the outer portion of the adrenal gland - with much smaller amounts coming from the woman's ovaries and man's testes. DHEAS secretion is controlled by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and other pituitary factors.

Progesterone (Female) - Progesterone is a steroid hormone whose main role is to help prepare a woman's body for pregnancy; it works in conjunction with several other female hormones.
